I just got back from Mississauga to attend a funeral. We’ll all miss you dearly, Grampa! I was one of the pallbearers which was a first for me. One of the positive things of the tragedy was the whole family got together for the first time in a long while. It was great to see all my aunts, uncle, cousins, and their kids together, not to mention my mom and brother. The other thing was I got to write uninterrupted on the plane. I’m pretty much done the first three chapters of my novel Dreaming Alejandro.
My productivity experiment was a wash out. I was trying to increase my output by using dictation, and it worked. By the second day, I had almost quadrupled my word count. Why was it a bust? Because I hated it. I’m just not a talker. I’m an introvert deep down. I’d rather do my wordsmithing visually. However, I did make one big change to my writing routine. The getting up early and writing before work stuck, and my output has increased dramatically.
The short story outline I made for the experiment is still going to get written out, and you’ll be able to read it here. I’ve got to get the novel done first. Nose to the grindstone and all that.
