The one book on writing that has improved my own more than any other is Anatomy of Story by John Truby. I wish I had discovered this work ten years ago. Certainly would’ve written a lot less crap. However, it’s a dense book. The information inside isn’t esoteric by any stretch of the imagination, but it isn’t exactly in a reader-friendly format either. So, I cooked up this worksheet in Google Docs to help with my own prewriting routine. I’m posting the file in the hopes it will help you as well. It basically shows prompts for the writing exercises at the end of each paragraph, but I’ve left notes where I felt I had to deviate from them.

By the way, if there are any typos or some such in the file, feel free to get in contact and let me know what it is. It’s a docx file so it should work in Microsoft Word, though I haven’t tried it yet. Also, this a companion to the book, not a substitute.

EDIT: I fixed up some things what were missing in the original file and re-uploaded. I hope you all find it useful.
